Carmen: An Operatic Concert (NNO)

The Northern Neck Orchestra will present an outdoor concert performance of Bizet’s electrifying opera Carmen sung by outstanding voices from James Taylor Studios of Richmond on Sunday, May 23 at 3 p.m.

The adaptation of Bizet’s classic tale of romance, passion, and jealousy set in Spain features some of opera’s greatest melodies; among them are the enchanting Habanera and the rousing Song of the Toreadors. 

Tickets are $25.00

Students are admitted free with an online reservation. 

The performance will be held outdoors and social distancing guidelines will be observed, including spacing between the audience and the singers.

 “Carmen is regarded as one of the greatest and most popular operas ever written, filled with great music, memorable characters and a compelling story,” said the Northern Neck Orchestra’s Eric Jacobson. “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to showcase talented performers from James Taylor Studios.” The cast includes mezzo-soprano Hannah Magnelli as the tempestuous gypsy Carmen, tenor James Taylor as the smitten soldier Don José, bass-baritone James Lynn as the bullfighter Escamillo and soprano Brittany Michaelsen-Mulkey as the charming maiden Micaëla.
