ESTATE-GROWN, HAND-CRAFTED WINES IN VIRGINIA’S HISTORIC NORTHERN NECK

Good Luck Cellars

Luck is in the WINE of the beholder.

At Good Luck Cellars, luck is our middle name, and we strive to pour good fortune in each and every glass.

We’re open Thursday-Monday (February-December) and Friday-Sunday (January); have a fun music and food truck lineup on Friday nights (some Saturdays as well); Sangria Sundays continue; and we’re continuing to add other events to our event page, so visit our event page often.

We offer a five flight-tasting, wine by the glass, and bottle sales. Traditional wine bar tastings are not offered at this time. Please make note that on busy days, the five-flight tastings are not offered, so staff can serve guests in a timely manner.

We have indoor seating available in our tasting room and event room. There’s outside seating on our covered, wrap-around porch and adjacent green space. And, there is a fireplace inside as well as outside to keep you warm during colder months.

Once you’re inside the winery, you’ll be greeted by our staff who can assist you with your wine order. Feel free to then find seating indoors/outdoors, pop a cork of Good Luck, sip back, and toast to good (luck) things to come.

We’re a dog-friendly winery and welcome friendly, leashed dogs on our porch and outdoor, green space (if the water bowls are empty, ask staff to fill). Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate dogs inside the facility.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • VIRGINIA STATE LAW PROHIBITS ALL OTHER ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON OUR PREMISES UNLESS IT’S PURCHASED FROM GOOD LUCK CELLARS! If you are seen with alcohol that was not purchased at Good Luck Cellars, you will be asked to leave the premises.

  • As always, feel free to bring your own food (no outside alcohol is allowed in as we’re only licensed to have our wine).

  • Tables are first come first served; however, if you have a group of eight or more, a call ahead is appreciated. Again, feel free to bring your own chair(s) as there’s plenty of green space.

  • Please place trash in available receptacles. We take empty wine bottles for recycling, so return bottles (and wine glasses) to staff before leaving. Wine glasses can be purchased for $3.

  • We welcome friendly dogs on leashes on the porch (not indoors) and surrounding, outdoor green space. There are several water bowls on the porch; if it’s out of water, ask staff for a refill. Important note: please do not take your dog into the vineyard as we have many rescues of our own, working to guard the vines (thank you).

ADDITIONAL PURCHASING OPTIONS

About Us

Our Vision

Vineyard owners Paul and Katie Krop shared a vision of creating a community-based vineyard and winery out of a parcel of land that was once used for mining sand, gravel, and top soil. The earth remaining was perfect for cultivating grapevines. They resurrected the mine into a marvel of ecologic recovery; a vineyard and winery filled with beauty, serenity, and great wines.

Paul unexpectedly passed away in October 2020. He was a huge presence at the winery, and the loss has weighed heavily on many hearts and souls. His passion for the science of making wine was apparent after your first sip of wine. This tremendous loss has left a huge hole in the Northern Neck community, and his presence continues to be missed. Feel free to raise your next glass of Good Luck and make a toast to Paul and his blessed life.

Paul’s wife Katie continues to nurture the vines alongside the vineyard crew (lead by Danny Peña) and collaborates in the wine-making process with winemaker Denny Sulick and his assistant Belen Jacobo to ensure the vision endures and you taste the passion at first sip.

Testimonials

Paul & Katie’s passion for chemistry of wine making stemmed from their first career in medicine. They began making wine in small batches from their home in Virginia Beach, using fruits grown in their backyard.
— Marianne Krop
It’s clear that Paul and Katie are passionate about what they do. Katie nurtures the nearly 25 acres of vines with help from a small staff. She also oversees the tasting room operations. Paul sticks to the cellars, making wonderful wine & maintaining storage in oak barrels and stainless vessels until they’re bottled.

Award-Winning Wines

85 medals since 2011

Many bottles at GLC shine with medals. We won THREE medals in 2024 from the Virginia Governor’s Cup.

There are now 85 medals on display in the Tasting Room. The top three medalists are Chardonel (12), Chambourcin (9), and Inheritage (8).

Top three whites: Chardonel first with Viognier second, followed by Vignoles and Chardonnay tied for third. Each vintage of our Chardonnay has been aged differently. Vignoles is rarely grown/produced in Virginia; it’s quite unique.

Top three reds: Chambourcin, Inheritage, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
